Thirty one patients with hepatocellular carcinoma were studied by ultrasonography, angiography and histo-pathological examination.
Ultrasonic findings of the hepatomas in the 31 patients were classified into the nodular and the diffuse type. Further, the nodular type was classified into four different types as follows, Ia) hyperechoic type Ib) isoechoic type II) hypoechoic type and III) mixed type. Angiographic findings of the hepatomas in the 31 patients were classified into high grade vascularity and low grade vasculanty.
There was not any correlation between ultrasonic findings and vascularities on angiography in the 31 patients with hepatoma.
Ultrasonographic examination was performed on resected specimens in the 22 patients. In all the twenty-two specimens, the ultrasonic findings of the hepatomas were unchanged before and after hepatectomy.
The parts of non-liquefactive necrosis in hepatoma were demonstrated as the hyperechoic pattern. It is assumed that echogenicity of the hepatoma had close connection with non-liquefactive necrosis.
