In place of conventional IVP we employ real-time ultrasonography as a diagnostic tool of first choice in patients suspected of having pathologic renal changes. The rate of SOL detection by IVP stands at 72% for renal cyst and 76% for renal tumor. IVP as screening is of lower value than expected. In past nine years we have achieved a 95% detection rate in examinations for renal tumors; 87% by renal angiography, 88% by CT scan, 93% by ultrasonography, and 86% by ultrasonic aspiration biopsy. Ultrasonography provides a high-rate detection of renal tumors, but CT scan is of still higher diagnostic value in the staging of renal tumors.
