To obtain the possibility of the diagnosis for tissue characterization, acoustic characteristics from the attenuation-frequency curve and sound velocity in acute ischemic myocardium in 24 dogs were studied by using of ultrasonic spectrometer and ultrasound velocimeter (single around type). 1) in attenuation-frequency curve, attenuation coefficient decreased in higher frequency region (3.5 to 5.5 MHz). 2) in velocimeter, sound velocity between media and ischemic myocardium were not different. 3) after incubation of the ATP-Tyrode's solution for 10 to 20 min., attenuation coefficient increased in higher frequency region, and sound velocity decreased inversely. These results suggested the existence of the functional structure in tissue and the relation between these acoustic characteristics and intracellular edema in acute ischemic myocardium.
