The application of ultrasonic imaging on neurological field is limited on intraoperative use at present, because of marked attenuation of sound through the skull bone. The brain imaging by direct real-time scan on the dura or the cerebral cortex is so useful to identify the intracerebral tumors that it makes operative approach extremely easy and makes mechanical damages on the brain tissues during the removing process minimum. Additionally, the biopsy technique for deep-seated brain tumors using real-time scan has brought us a number of advantages in easiness, accuracy and safety for biopsy procedures.
Echogenic factors of intracerebral tumors were also discussed.
