　Five patients were studied with combined two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE) and pulsed Doppler echocardiography in order to demonstrate the findings of the ventricular septal rupture (VSR) in myocardial infarction. All five patients were male. The age ranged from 47 to 76 years with an average of 58.6 years. The position of the myocardial infarction was anteroseptal in 3 patients, anterior and lateral in 2.
　Echocardiographic examination was carried out with a Sonolayergraph SSH-11A of Toshiba and Sansector of Sankyo.
　The demonstrable 2DE and Doppler findings were as follows; (1) The discontinuity of the interventricular septum (IVS) with sliding of the edge of the rupture site; (2) The thinning of the IVS in the ruptured and infarcted area; (3) Enhancement of the echo in the IVS at the infarcted and ruptured area; (4) The systolic abnormal flow in the ruptured site of the IVS by Doppler echocardiography. In four cases, single perforation of the IVS was observed in cardiac operation, and the two ruptured sites were recognized in the remaining one.
　Two-dimensional echocardiography combined with Doppler echocardiography is thought to be a useful method to diagnose the ventricular septal rupture that is serious complication of myocardial infarction.
