We experienced two cases of human fascioliasis which were diagnosed according to clinical symptoms, laboratory data-high eosinophilia, slight elevation of AL-P, gamma-GTP and LAP-and by immunological method (Ouchterlony double immunodiffusion test), although parasite eggs in their feces and bile juice were undetected.
Ultrasonogram showed a characteristic echo pattern, which was located mainly in the liver surface and was irregular in shape with inhomogeneous echogenesity, indicating cystic structure in part.
After treatment, the characteristic echo pattern became smaller or disappeared. Therefore ultrasonography seems to be a useful tool for the diagnosis of human fascioliasis.
