　The fetal blood sampling using a fetoscope is widely accepted for the antenatal diagnosis. However, the fetoscope is not widespread in the clinical practice, because the difficulty of the technique and the necessity of a special tool which is not so often used for routine work. The development of the ultrasonic real-time scanner has made it possible to visualize not only the fetus but also the fine structure of the placenta and umbilical vessels. In this study, we tried the direct fetal blood sampling from the cord vessels with the aid of real-time scanner for the exact diagnosis of the nonimmune hydrops fetalis of 27 weeks gestation. The needle of No. 18 gauge was inserted through the abdominal wall into the umbilical vein and 10 ml of the fetal blood was easily aspirated. Bleeding from the cord into the amniotic cavity stopped spontaneously after 30 sec. No harmful side effect was observed. The echo guide technique was proved to be a useful method for the fetal blood sampling.
