　Characterization of ultrasonic diagnostic systems is important for knowing whether such systems are diagnostically potential for a particular disease to be diagnosed. In the present paper, resolution and beam characteristics of an ophthalmic probe, developed by the authors in the laboratory, are studied. The ophthalmic probe under study is found to be potentially useful for the examination of the eye tissue for different types of abnormalities like haemorrhage, cataract, blood clotting, and presence of foreign bodies, etc.
