We had examined 22 cases of renal tumor ultrasonically from 1980 to 1985.
Central echoes in the sonograms were classified into 3 types according to the degree of deformity by tumor.
Type I: Central echoes are free from the tumor.
Type II: Central echoes are deformed but not interrupted by the tumor.
Type III: Central echoes are interrupted by the tumor.
2 cases were classified into Type I, 6 cases into Type II and 16 cases into Type III.
From the results it was considered that the classification corresponded to the clinical and pathological findings and was available to the evaluation of tumor infiltration.
