The purpose of this study is to measure the normal size of the head of the pancreas ultrasonographically and provide greater precision in the ultrasonographic diagnosis of the pancreas in children.
In 52 healthy children, ultrasonic measurement of the size of the head of the pancreas were carried out. The craniocaudal and the ventrodorsal dimensions were measured on a sagittal sectional plane of the head of the pancreas. The values of both the long and the short axis showed the linear increment according to the growth of children, and correlated best with the height.
We cocluded that the height of children is the most suitable parameter for a rapid clinical evaluation of the head of the pancreas.
