In order to evaluate the relationship between mitral flow velocity by continuous wave Doppler method and diastolic posterior aortic wall motion on M-mode echocardiogram, mitral flow velocity and aortic root echocardiogram were recorded in 70 subjects including 25 normal controls, 16 patients with hypertension, 21 with ischemic heart disease, and 8 with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. We obtained peak filling velocity in rapid filling (F-RF), peak filling velocity in atrial systole (F-AS), F-AS/F-RF, peak velocity of posterior aortic wall in rapid filling (Ao-RF), peak velocity of posterior aortic wall in atrial systole (Ao-AS) and Ao-AS/Ao-RF.
