In the previous report we showed that peak velocity of posterior aortic wall in rapid filling (Ao-RF) and peak velocity of posterior aortic wall in atrial systole/Ao-RF (Ao-AS/Ao-RF) can be used as parameters of left ventricular diastolic function. To examine the influence of aging on Ao-RF and Ao-AS/Ao-RF, we measured these parameters in 119 subjects who were diagnosed as healthy by a check up examination. There was a significant correlatin between Ao-RF and age (r=-0.64 pThen we measured Ao-RF and Ao-AS/Ao-RF in patients with old myocardial infarction (OMI) (n=55), angina pectoris (AP) (n=34), variant angina (n=12), chest pain syndrome (n=19) and normal control (n=45). Ao-RF was significantly lower in patients with OMI and AP, when compared with normal control. Ao-AS/Ao-RF was significantly higher in patients with OMI and AP, when compared with normal control. It appears that Ao-RF and Ao-AS/Ao-RF are sensitive and easily obtainable parameters of the diastolic dysfunction associated with coronary artery disease.
