To evaluate cardiac function in patients on maintenance hemodialysis, the relationship between wall stress (WS) and mean velocity of circumferential fiber shortening (mVcf) was examined with the use of echocardiography and pressure measurements before and after hemodialysis. We studied 37 normal subjects and 37 patients on maintenance hemodialysis without heart failure.
