With ultrasound, inferior right hepatic vein (IRHV) or short hepatic vein (SHV) were visualized in 77 out of 245 patients (31.4%). IRHV was demonstrated in 20.4% of patients, and SHV was in 5.7%. In patients whose IRHV could be seen, mean diameter of the right hepatic vein (RHV) was thinner than that of control patients whose IRHV and SHV were not seen, and the diameter of the IRHV was thicker than that of the RHV in 21 out of 50 patients (40.2%). In these 21 patients, the diameter of the RHV was thinner than that of middle hepatic vein (MHV) and left hepatic vein (LHV). In patients whose SHV could be seen, diameter of RHV, MHV and LHV were not significantly changed from control patients. Both IRHV and SHV were visualized in 13 out of 245 patients (5.3%) and in these patients, the diameter of the RHV was also thinner than that of MHV and LHV.
