A case of diverticulitis of the colon which was followed by various imagiological modalities including ultrasonography (US), CT and barium enema throughout the course of illness was reported.
The inflamed segment of the colon was visualized as a hypoechoic mass with central echogenic foci in transverse section on US. Thickness of the colon wall decreased as inflammation was alleviated. Ultrasonographic findings correlated with images on CT and barium enema.
US is useful in diagnosis of diverticulitis of the colon and observation of the following course.
