The mechanism of aortic regurgitation (AR) associated with annuloaortic ectasia (AAE) was studied in 16 patients with AAE and 21 normal controls. Using 2-dimensional echocardiography, AR was diagnosed by color flow imaging. The grade of AR was mild in 9 and severe in 7. The diameter at the lower end of aortic annulus (surgical aortic valve ring, ARD) and the upper end of the annulus (aortic root, AoD) and the distance from the coaptation point ofaortic valve to the line of surgical valve ring (Co) were measured from the long axis views. ARD was not significantly different among the 3 groups [17±3 mm/m in AAE with severe AR, 16±2 mm/m in AAE with mild AR and 15±2 mm/m in control]. Singnificant difference (p35±4 mm/m in mild AR>23±2 mm/m in control] and Co 8±1 mm/m in severe AR>6±1 mm/m in mild AR>2±1 mm/m in control]. In addition Co was correlated well with AoD (r=0.86, p
