Mass screening program for prostatic diseases using transrectal sonography (TRS) for the primary study was performed on 6,529 males fron January, 1975 to October, 1988. Among 40 cases of prostatic cancer detected in this mass screening, 22 cases (55.0%) were finally diagnosed as prostatic cancer in Stage B. Sixteen cases were ultrasonically diagnosed as PC( I ) , 4 cases as PC(II) , and the remaining 2 cases could not be pointed out by TRS.
These results showed that an importance to diagnose as PC( I ) by TRS in the detection of cases in the early stages, which required a well-trained reading ability for TRS images.
