An asymptomatic renal cell carcinoma was incidentally detected in ten persons by ultrasonographic examination of the upper abdomen performed in 21,567 persons. One of them was detected by ultrasonography in a general health check, and another one was detected by ultrasonographic abdominal mass survey. Eight of them had complaints or diseases of digestive organs. The minimum tumor size was 15 mm in diameter. Eight cases were less than 50 mm in diameter. The histological stage was pT2a in one case, and pT2b in nine cases. Eight cases showed homogeneous pattern, and six cases showed hyperechoic pattern. Ultrasonographic mass screening seems to be useful for early detection of renal cell carcinoma.
