A 61-year-old man suffering from general malaise and edema of extremities was first admitted to our hospital in June 1985. After admission, several examinations were performed, resulting in a diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). As a treatment for HCC, TAE therapy was performed twice before his fourth admission. By angiogram, during his present admission, shunting between the hepatic artery and the portal vein was demonstrated at the umbilical portion. By using 2D-Doppler echography, the area of arterio-portal shunting was visualized clearly, making it possible to analyze the hemodynamics of shunting by FFT noninvasively and conveniently.
It is considered that this new modality is useful for the assessment of abdominal hemodynamics such as arterio-portal shunting.
