From March, 1978 to July, 1989, 545 selective renal biopsies under ultrasonic real time guidance were performed on 540 patients. The success rate was 98%. Renal bleeding requiring transfusions were encountered in only 4 cases and aggravation of renal insufficiency noted in one case.
Since 1982, we have performed selective needle core biopsy for the specially indicated cases suspected of renal tumor. Between June 1982 and July 1989, 30 cases with renal tumor were examined by biopsy and evaluated 15 cases of renal cell carcinoma, 4 cases of transitional cell carcinoma, 3 cases of normal deviations, 2 cases of metastatic carcinoma, 2 cases of angiomyolipoma, 2 cases of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis, 1 case of sinus lipomatosis and 1 case of angiomyoliposarcoma. No complications occurred.
