We tried to apply US-tissue characterization to diagnosing diffuse renal diseases. We made images of the renal cortex using amplitude, mean frequency, frequency-dependent attenuation from a back-scattered signal. We then analyzed the textures of these images.
We analyzed the parameter images taken from chronic renal failure patients (non-contracted kidney (4 cases), contracted kidney (3 cases) and normal volunteers (7 cases).
There were no significant differences between these parameter values, but we found significant statistical differences between some texture statistics from the parameter images obtained from the three groups.
This indicates that parameter imaging and texture analysis could be useful in diagnosing diffuse renal disease.
