To investigate the effects of Nitroglycerin on Portal Hypertension, we measured the portal hemodynamics of ten patients with chronic liver diseases (7 with liver cirrhosis and 3 with idiopathic portal hypertension) using the Ultrasonic Doppler Duplex System.
Mean blood flow velocity and volume in the portal and splenic veins decreased significantly after infusion of Nitroglycerin (p We concluded that Nitroglycerin reduced portal blood flow without a significant reduction in arterial blood pressure. The optimal blood concentration of Nitroglycerin to get above effect was 0.5∼0.8γ.
