The flow velocity of blood in the renal segmental artery and interlobar arteries in various kidney diseases was assesed by real-time- two dimentional Doppler echography (Toshiba SSA-270 A).
Eighty-three cases of renal disease and 54 healthy volunteers were examined. Segmental artery blood velocity was measured in the central-echo-complex, whereas interlobar artery blood flow was measured at the side of renal pyramid through a longitudinal scan. Both the maximum blood flow velocity (Vmax) and minimum blood flow velocity (Vmin) were measured quantitatively according to the pulsewave Doppler method. A clear correlation between the creatinine clearance and Vmin of the segmental artery and interlobar artery was found. In cases that demonstrated under 50 ml/min of Ccr, those that were below 30 ml/min, Vmin of the interlobar artery was especially low. However, there was no correlation between blood pressure and blood flow velocity. In our conclusion, velocity of in the intelobar and segmental arteries was influenced by the glomerular filtration rate, but not by blood pressure.
