The sonographic features of gallbladder adenoma (GA) have not been thoroughly reported. In this study, sonograms and histological characteristics were compared in three cases of histologically proven GA, including one case with a small cancer focus within the lesion.
This study revealed that the GA was usually imaged on the sonogram as flat, or mushroom-shaped hypo-or isoechoic polypoid lesion containing small anechoic spots.
Although differential diagnosis of gallbladder polypoid lesions by ultrasound alone remains difficult, sonography assists in distinguishing GA from gallbladder cholesterol polyps, the most common polypoid lesion of the gallbladder, which is usually imaged as multiple hyperechoic lesions containing small, strongly reflective spots.
