We evaluated the effect of the hepatic surface upon the diaphragmatic echogram. 85 cases of hepatic disease were examined using laparoscopy and conventional ultrasonography. The laparoscopic findings were classified into 4 categories; smooth (15), slight irregularity (28), irregularity (19) and nodule (23). And 3 factors of the diaphragmatic echo; thickness, unclearness, irregularity, were classified into 3 categories; 0: normal, 1: slight change, 2: clear change. We called the total number of the 3 categories Diaphragmatic Echo Score. And compared them with the 4 laparoscopic categaries. Results revealed that the diaphragmatic echo findings corresponded with the Diaphragmatic Echo Score. We concluded that the diaphragmatic echo was influenced by the hepatic surface and we evaluatated that the diaphragmatic echogram was useful in diagnosing hepatic disease.
