Ultrasonic B-mode examination, though widely used, is unsuitable for quantitative evaluation because
modifications are necessary during image processing. The authors constructed amplitude images (AMI)
and mean frequency images (FMI) using an ultrasonic back-scattered radio-frequency signal directory
and judged the image patterns quantitatively by analyzing the texture. Because the probability function
of amplitude is solved mathematically, we could evaluate AMI quantitatively, unlike B-mode images. We
also used FMI, which displays frequency information, to compensate for B-mode images (also AMI)
constructed using only amplitude information.
Twenty-six patients who had surgery (prostatic cancer (Pc) , 5 cases; chronic prostatitis (Ptis) , 5 cases;
and benign prostatic hypertrophy (Ph), 16 cases) were investigated using a waterbath.
