A hairless mouse in a beaker was exposed to 48 kHz ultrasound and pyoktanin blue. Macro and microscopic examinations were carried out and compared with groups without ultrasound exposures. Skin subjected to ultrasound showed both a diffused and localized penetration of the dye. This suggested that ultrasound affected the barrier function of the stratum corneum. It was further suggested that local penetration of the dye may be due to the structural character of the skin.
