A 50 year-old Japanese female was admitted to our hospital because of hypochondralgia and back pain. A diagnosis of polycystic kidney disease was made upon imaging examinations. The patient had hypertension. Following ultrasound-guided percutaneous aspiration of the cystic fluid, a treatment with 99.5% ethanol for cysts in liver and kidneys was administered. Dramatic relief of the pain was obtained and blood pressure improved after the treatment. There were no complications during or after this procedure. Reduction of cyst volume with ethanol injection is the treatment of choice for those patients with polycystic kidney disease showing symptoms or hypertension.
