A recently developed acoustic quantification (AQ) method permits real time automated edge detection with on-line cavity volume measurement throughout a cardiac cycle. To assess the accuracy of acoustic quantification in the evaluation of the left ventricular volume and ejection fraction, we examined 28 patients using both the AQ method and left ventriculography.
