The spectral-shift zero-crossing method was used to determine frequency-dependent attenuation (FDA) of invasive ductal carcinomas of the breast in vivo. FDA values were measured in 68 breast carcinomas: 25 scirrhous carcinomas, 20 solid-tubular carcinomas, 9 papillotubular carcinomas, 7 medullary carcinomas, 4 lobular carcinomas, and 3 other specific types of carcinoma. Mean attenuation value of the scirrhous carcinomas was 2.38 dB/cm/MHz; that of the solid-tubular carcinomas, 1.44 dB/cm/MHz; and that of the papillotubular carcinomas, 0.87 dB/cm/MHz. Statistical analysis using the unpaired t-test showed significant differences between FDA values of scirrhous carcinomas and those of solid-tubular carcinomas (p
