A 64-year-old man came to this institution after experiencing general fatigue and dyspnea on effort for 5 months. The echocardiograms showed a solid tumor surrounding the left atrium and left ventricle and located between the pericardium and the myocardium. Magnetic resonance imaging showed the same finding as echocardiography, but further showed that the tumor extended to the main trunk of the pulmonary artery. Malignant mesothelioma or malignant lymphoma was suspected. The patient was admitted and needle biopsy was performed under echocardiographic guidance. Histopathologic study confirmed the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma. The patient was discharged after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy, because his symptoms were improved in spite of the lack of change in the size of his tumor. Echocardiography was useful in diagnosing this rare case of malignant mesothelioma.
