In the attempt to clarify the clinical significance of arterial blood flow analysis by ultrasonic Doppler imaging in the differential diagnosis of breast masses, we used color Doppler echography to examine 185 breast masses in 185 patients: 126 were malignant tumors; 59, benign tumors. Color Doppler imaging showed arterial blood flow in all of these lesions. Rate of detection of arterial flow with a resistance index (RI)≧1.0 within the masses was evaluated. The detection rates of arterial blood flow with RI≧1.0 were 56% and 12% in malignant and benign tumors, respectively, and the differences were statistically significant (p
