A 75-year-old woman with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was treated by transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE). One week later, ultrasonography with Levovist was used to evaluate the effect of the treatment. Levovist (300 mg/ml) was administered intravenously: 3 ml in the first 3 seconds; 4 ml in the next 4 minutes. We used both power Doppler and intermittent harmonic power Doppler imaging and detected the residue of the flow in the tumor with modes. Viable HCC was obtained by US-guided biopsy. CT after TAE showed apparent deposition of Lipiodol. Enhanced ultrasonography was useful in evaluating early efficacy after TAE in this case of HCC.
