The patient was a 62-year-old woman who complained of fever. Abdominal echography revealed a hypoechoic area in the S 8 area of the liver. The hypoechoic area measured 50x45 mm across and had an ill defined border. The patient, s C reactive protein level was strongly elevated on admission. Contrast harmonic echography with Levovist in the early phase showed a double target sign, suggesting liver abscess. Similar findings were demonstrated by contrast-enhanced CT scan. Intravenous administration of an antibiotics reduced the fever and inflammatory reactions, and reduced the size of the liver abscess. Contrast harmonic echography with Levovist was useful in the diagnosis and follow-up of liver abscess.
