The on-line image processing system of echocardiogram has been developed by feeding an electric echo signal directly into the mini-computer through analog to digital converter with sampling rate of 2 MHz and 8-bit resolution.
The edges of left ventricular posterior wall and interventricular septum were determined automatically by a computer tracing of the echo signals. The chamber diameter and wall thickness were subsequently obtained. The shortening characteristics of left ventricle could also be assessed by volume and velocity data.
The techniques described will provide the rapid and accurate method for clinical assessment of cardiac function.
