　Ultrasonic diagnosis showed rapid development and has occupied significant position in the clinical diagnosis. Many kinds of diagnostic equipments have developed. Amongst development of pulse echo diagnostic equipment is remarkable. This paper reviews the relation between peformance of the equipment and display image in pulse echo diagnostic equipment.
　On basic characteristics or performances of the equipment such as overall sensitivity, resolution, gray scale characteristics, frame rate, viewing field, distortion of display image, artifacts etc., their primary factors and their influence to display image are described. Further, this paper refer to other factors which affect on the display image and insists that one must care these relations in case of reading the display images.
