Ultrasonic examinations with real time scanning system were performed in 6 cases of hepatic abscesses. SOLs were detected in 5 of6 cases. But another one case can not be detected hepatic abscess due to multiple small abscesses. In two cases, SOLs were semisolid pattern and could not be differentiated from tumor of the liver. In such cases, the accurate diagnosis can be made with aspirating with ultrasonically guided puncture of the suspected mass in the liver. For the treatment of hepatic abscesses, ultrasonically guided puncture was also used. We performed ultrasonically guided drainage both hepatic abscess and bilialy tract in 4 of 6 cases, and another 2 cases were performed only bilialy tract drainage. By this technique, all 6 cases were treated successfully. We concluded that ultrasonically guided drainage was significant and useful for the diagnosis and treatment of hepatic abscess.
