Recently we have developed a prototype mobile unit for the mass screening of prostatic diseases using transrectal ultrasonotomography. 　The car used for the unit was a small motor lorry, of which load capacity was 2 tons. All necessary equipments for transrectal ultrasonotomography with accessories such as chairs, lights and drainage system were included in the cabin. Five persons (two examiners, two examinees and a nurse) could get on it. For data recording we used the driving room and made contact with the examiners through an interphone. 　We tried to use the unit for 18 subjects living in Keihoku-cho and Uzu district in Kyoto prefecture on March 10, 1980. Among them 2 were diagnosed as prostatic cancer and 7 as benign prostatic hypertrophy. 　The average examination time per person was 9.4 minutes, indicating about 3 minutes shortening as compared with the previous experiments. A practical mobile unit based on these data will appear very soon.
