Quantitative Pulsed Ultrasound Exposure System for Studies of Bioeffects

For determining the safety dose of ultrasound, studies on ultrasonic bioeffects are necessary. It is important that pulsed ultrasound generator for the studies can set the exposure amount of ultrasound accurately. This paper reports on the pulsed ultrasound generator, model USP-1, which was designed for the studies of ultrasonic bioeffects. Operating frequency of the generator is 2 MHz. Pulse widths choosable are 3 μs, 5 μs and 10 μs. Pulse repetition frequencies can be set at 250 Hz, 500 Hz and 1000 Hz. Ultrasound intensity can be changed from 0 to 50 W/cm² (SATP). Further transducer driving current (average and peak value) can be recorded continuously for monitoring the intensity of ultrasound.
