Portal hemodynamics were evaluated in 19 cases of acute hepatitis by an ultrasonic pulsed Doppler system. The peaks of the blood flow in the portal vein did not correspond to the peaks of the serum transaminase level. The ultrasonic pulsed Doppler system showed the maximum blood flow at the initial phase of convalescence. Our observation suggest that an increase in the portal blood flow is related to the regeneration of hepatic cells.
